More Ways to Help Haiti
Reverend Tom Murphy of Christ Church realizes that rebuilding Haiti "will be a long-term commitment. The thing the Haitian people need most now is money and prayer." Father Murphy also said the Episcopal Diocese have about 89,000 parishioners in Haiti. As a result of the earthquake, their cathedral has collapsed, and the Bishop (who has volunteered to remain in Haiti to help), among other members of the congregation, are now part of a tent city. Christ Church sent a donation to the diocese in Haiti to provide assistance. "We've also encouraged parishioners to send money directly to charities helping Haiti."
Here are two Father Murphy recommended:

84-Year-Old Woman Mugged-Update
On Thursday, the 14th, an 84-year-old woman was mugged on her doorstep after walking back from the M St. Bank of America at noon. As she was opening her door, a "barrel-chested, bulky man [with] light to medium African American complexion, [and] no facial hair" pushed her into the house and knocked her to the floor. He hit her face, bruising it, then grabbed her purse, and ran out the front door. The mugger maxed-out her credit cards at nearby gas stations.

No Parking Signs Annoy Neighborhood
Carol Joynt wrote a letter to Mayor Fenty, Jack Evans, and ANC2E expressing unhappiness at temporary no parking signs posted in Georgetown. From her website: "For the past week we had 'no parking' signs taped to the trees and sign posts covering half the block, effective from early in the morning until 5 PM each day, including Saturday. But nothing happened. No city work crews, no moving vans. No one and nothing showed up to employ the empty stretches of road, and all the while residents were denied at least 20 spaces." More signs were posted the next day, renewing the restriction.
